What is a Magna Giant?

Since our focus is building the best possible Giant Schnauzer by adding health, soundness of body and mind to beauty, and selling these TOP QUALITY dogs (in many cases champion quality dogs) to superb pet homes, we have somehow neglected to mention that our dogs are shown and really are top quality Giant Schnauzers. Because of this we are often asked by buyers who are primarily interested in our kennel because of our devotion to our dogs and commitment to doing things right if we show our dogs. Actually, these are the kinds of buyers we want... the ones that have high standards and want the best, not just dogs that win, but dogs that are tested for generations and come from a breeder that is committed to the dogs and their owners for the life of the dogs. At Magna you not only get great pets, but dogs that have come from a kennel or even a line that is a fourth generation Westminster Kennel Club award winners. So with that, I will give you an idea of what we Magna owners and our dogs have been up to recently.

Some of these dogs live here, others live with their owners.

  • NEW CHAMPION Magna's Uninhibited - Lilly

  • NEW CHAMPION Magna's Out-Rhea-Geous - Brutus

  • NEW CHAMPION Magna's Allure - Daphne won a 5 point major her first time out the weekend of the National at the Regional Specialty and she is hard coated and natural earred.

  • NEW CHAMPION Magna's Sola Mia - Winner of a major at a supported entry. Watch for her babies in the ring. They are gorgeous!

  • NEW CHAMPION Magna's Town Crier CD, RN - In addition to her championship, Zoya is also titled in; Novice Rally, Novice Obedience and is ready for open obedience. She is also a certified therapy pet. Zoya was purchased and selected as a performance dog and pet, not as a show dog. Her owner decided to take her in the conformation ring herself and since she is a beautiful show quality dog their first time in the ring she won Best Puppy at a regional specialty. She won Winners Bitch at that same specialty. Mary did a great job with Zoya and finished her championship almost completely by herself. Zoya is in the top 5 of rally and obedience performers.

  • NEW CHAMPION Magna's Mia-mi Glow RA - She has also won her Rally Novice title. Her novice owners bought this dog as a pet and found they love the performance events and to watch her dog in the conformation ring! Mia-Mi is in the top 5 of rally performers.

  • NEW CHAMPION Magna's Andriola de Barrachi - Rudy is now a family pet but will return for breeding and whelping. We cannot wait to see what this beauty produces!

  • NEW CHAMPION Magna's Foreign Correspondent - L's claim to fame will be relative to what he sires. His pups are really lovely!

And yet others are working on titles or additional titles...

  • CH Magna's Town Crier CD,RN - Zoya needs one leg of her advanced rally title to finish that title and now has her first leg in open.

  • CH Magna's Mia-mi Glow RA - Mia-mi is working on novice obedience work.

  • Magna's Kirby Pucket - Kirby is working on agility.

  • Magna's Born To Perform has points towards his championship.

  • Magna's Unusual Suspect has begun his collection of points towards his championship. We think he is superb! He won a 5pnt major Specialty weekend in MA and Best Puppy in Sweepstakes.

  • Magna's Emcee earned both of her majors when one of Magna's owners with special needs offered to give her a great home purchasing her as the perfect fit to live in their home in NM with them and their service dog Casey.

  • Magna's ____ - Zhar is working on Schutzhund which includes protection, tracking and obedience.

We have other up and coming beauties here and even more in their homes that will be out in the near future. Some are for sale to special homes that would enjoy playing with us at shows and owning a gorgeous pet....

  • Magna's Billie Jean - Cammy has points towards her championship.

  • Magna's Unusual Suspect - Vader has a 5 point major and some singles.

  • Magna's Unforgetable - Hope has not yet been shown. Maybe in the fall.

  • Neko, (formerly known as Pink) - Neko

  • Gerda

  • Magna's Midnight Kiss - Smooch

  • Magna's Happy New Year - Denny

  • Sophie

And then we have some superstar owners working on their performances too....

Magna's goals and practices are not typical. Unlike other breeders, we refuse to sell breeding rights to novices for any price and we want anyone using our stud dogs to have the same high standards we do. Another way we are different is that we prefer to have great dogs and only show the top quality amongst the best in the country at what are called "Giant Schnauzer Specialties." Nearly any dog can earn a championship and we are not interested in the "average" champion quality dogs. Since Magna has begun breeding;

  • Nearly every litter we have ever bred has produced a specialty award winner.

  • We have won at nearly every specialty we have ever attended.

  • We now have dogs producing pups for us that are the fourth generation of Westminster Kennel Club awardees.

  • We have never had a dog we have sold end up in rescue.

  • We support our dogs and owners for life! We get calls almost daily from our owners to ask questions. We welcome these calls because we know how to make them successful in their homes and are committed to it.

  • Relative to what tests are available to the Giant Schnauzer world today, we have all of our generations tested against genetic defects even beyond that which the breed club recommends.

  • We have never knowingly bred a dog with defects and do our best to flush out imperfections prior to breeding.

  • All Magna dogs are micro-chipped. If it ever happens that one is lost, we want them returned to their families!

These are things we are VERY PROUD OF and we know of no other Giant Schnauzer breeder that can say the same. Our dogs are largely the best of the best and that is a fact that cannot be disputed since nearly all of our wins and awards were owner handled (winning without politics or money for expensive campaigns) and these special wins are recorded as part of the breeds history.

But most of all, we are proud of producing healthy dogs for generations and being diligent in finding great homes for them to spend their lives in even when it was inconvenient or flat out difficult to lose a sale. We never forget that their good care is the reason we, the dogs stewards sleep soundly each night knowing they are getting the best of care in the best of homes. (Thank you Magna owners!)

Proudly,

Pat Malan, Breeder
